History: As early as 1932, the Reich Ministry of Transport commissioned the development of a bomber and passenger aircraft, with the bomber variant (kept secret for the time being) taking priority. In May 1935, the first civilian He 111 V2 took off for its maiden flight. During the course of testing, various changes were made, such as the installation of more powerful engines, as the Luftwaffe required higher speeds. From 1936, Lufthansa used its He 111 on express routes as a replacement for the He 70, which had become too small by then. In addition to passengers, goods and mail were also transported, which were transported through the nose of the aircraft into the interior of the aircraft. The Luftwaffe received its first He 111 in the autumn of 1936. The first military deployment took place in March 1937, when the Condor Legion used 30 He 111 B-1s against the Spanish Republic. All civilian aircraft were gradually transferred to the Luftwaffe during the war.
